Annual Report 2010

The Construction Institute
Annual Report 2009- 2010

Message from the Co-Chairs

We have just left behind a year that many may be only too happy to forget. The downturn in the econo-my continued to wreak havoc on businesses and workers, with the construction industry being particu-larly hard hit. But as small signs of economic hope emerge, it is a watershed time for the union construc-tion sector in Massachusetts to reap the rewards of the economic recovery.

And, the Construction Institute (TCI) will be at the fo-refront of helping union construction secure and grow market share by changing the existing paradigm from one of “lowest price wins” to “best overall value wins”. TCI offers the distinct advantage for both labor and management from all trades to gain efficiencies by pooling their resources to support this common purpose.

Through its Built Best public relations campaign, support of scholarly research, and public policy advocacy, TCI will continue to demonstrate and promote the superior value and benefits of union construction to the industry and its customers. And, through topical educational programming, workforce development programs, and its BuildSafe New England initiative, TCI will assist workers and contractors in making continuous improvements in quality, productivity and safety.

We cannot do this without the financial support of our employer and union partners. We are confident that the industry will recognize that TCI’s role is more critical than ever as we move forward to build a better future for union construction.

Thomas J. Gunning, TCI President

Francis X. Callahan, Jr., TCI Vice President
