Creating Safer and Healthier Workplaces for Construction Workers and Contractors
TCI was initially established as the Labor-Management Construction Safety Alliance in 1998, and as the name reflects, was dedicated to promoting safety and health in the construction industry. Although our mission has since been broadened to address a wide array of industry issues of concern to building trades unions and contractors, TCI continues to serve as a leading advocate and resource on workplace safety and health.
Our workplace safety and health courses, seminars and conferences have reached over 6,000 workers and employers. Additionally, we have developed award winning training materials on such issues as safety in the roofing industry, excavation and trenching safety, and the four high hazards in construction – falls, electrocution, struck-by and caught-in-between. And, TCI is a founding member of BuildSafe - an initiative to make New England the safest place to work in construction in the country.
Every year TCI also honors significant achievements made by men and women in advancing safety and health in the construction industry through the Volpe-Eagan Safety Awards. The Volpe-Eagan Safety Awards are conferred in honor of Patrick Volpe and Edward F. Eagan, both pioneers in promoting health and safety in the construction industry.
